Riding the Maverick X3 in NSW

For a while there was no international travel, no big events to compete in. But Toby's not one to sit around watching his passport gather dust. He called some mates, loaded up his Maverick X3 and went on an epic journey.

In Australia it doesn’t end at a fence line. We’re blessed with a backyard spanning more than seven million square kilometres, comprising of every single conceivable landscape. It’s ours and it’s right there, waiting to be explored.

There’s never been a more important time to take stock of what we have on our doorstep, what’s in our backyard, what’s just down the road. Sure, right now it’s hard to travel beyond our shores. The silver lining is that our regions are crying out for our support as they recover from not only the effects of the pandemic, but droughts, fires, floods and everything in between.

The call to support local tourism is one Toby Price is happy to answer. Like all Australians the pandemic changed his life. For a while there was no international travel, no big events to compete in. But he’s not one to sit around watching his passport gather dust. He called some mates, loaded up his Maverick X3 and went on an epic journey of local discovery.

Now he wants you to follow in his wheel tracks.

Toby Price

Two Dakar Rally wins, six Finke Desert Race titles.

Says it all, really. But while Toby may be best known for his heroic exploits on two wheels – and we don’t use the term ‘heroic’ lightly, this guy won the Dakar Rally with a broken wrist – he’s just as comfortable (and fast) on four. He’s the proud owner of a Maverick X3 RS Turbo R and a dedicated Can-Am ambassador.

It doesn’t get much better than that, right?. Toby and Reggie met on the moto scene in the Maitland area when they were kids and have been buddies ever since. Reggie may know this countryside on two wheels, but can he keep up with Toby on four?

TJ’s 4B Park

Cut into the rugged Howes Valley bushland, TJ’s 4B Park is the stuff four-wheeled dreams are made of. There are thousands of acres to explore, ranging from muddy trails to rocky climbs. There are a number of camping sites with dedicated fire places, but entry numbers are strictly limited to ensure your stay is as quiet as possible. Don’t bank on having any mobile phone reception either. Uploading those Insta-worthy moments, and there will be plenty, will have to wait.

* Your camping gear

* A four-wheel-drive to get in and out

* A change of clothes or two

* Some tear-off for your goggles

* Fuel (none available on site)

* Your Can-Am recreational vehicle of choice.

* Toilet and shower facilities are available.

Bike Territory

Sprawling through the Nandewar Range is Bike Territory, a 10,000-acre working sheep and cattle property that doubles as an off-road playground. There’s endless kilometres of tracks, with fast, open trails and climbs that lead to breathtaking lookout views. If you’re coming straight from TJ’s, you’ve probably got your camping gear on board. If not, there’s comfortable, rustic accomodation on site, including shearers’ quarters that sleep up to 28, a cottage that sleeps up to 10 and a house that can accommodate as many as 15.

* A playlist or two for the highway stint

* Camping gear (if no accomodation has been booked)

* Linen and towels (even if accomodation has been booked)

* A change of clothes or two

* Tear-offs for your goggles

* Fuel (none available on site)
