BRP Recalls Can-Am® Youth All-Terrain Vehicles Due to Fire Hazard

October 7, 2015

Which models are affected by the safety recall?

Model Year 2015 and 2016 Can Can-Am™ DS 90™ and DS 90™X®

Serial number list

What is the potential problem?

Some units were assembled with a defective fuel filter. The fuel filter can break and cause a fuel leak. Fuel vapor in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire and can potentially cause serious injuries.

Re: Model Year 2015 and 2016 Can Can-Am™ DS 90™ and DS 90™X® -- Fuel Filter Replacement

Dear Can-Am ATV Owner,

This notice is being sent in accordance with the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Act, the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Environment Canada. BRP has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain Can-Am DS 90 models and is conducting a safety recall.

This is a safety-related as well as an emission-related recall.

What should you do?

Immediately stop using your vehicle and call an authorized BRP Can-Am dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. The repair will take less than an hour.

The dealer will perform this work at no charge to you.

Note: A defective fuel filter which can lead to a fuel leak may cause the vehicle to release air pollutants exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Environment Canada standards resulting in potentially failing a state or local emissions inspection.

As defined in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations, and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as a manufacturer, we are also required to correct vehicles that may be emitting pollutants in excess of emission standards. These emission standards were established to protect the public health or welfare from air pollution.

Your continued satisfaction with your BRP product is important to us. We have taken this action in the interest of your safety and your vehicle's proper operation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
