HOW TO EXTEND YOUR ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE RANGE

Planning a long ride on your electric motorcycle? Maximizing your range isn’t just about having a full battery—it’s about smart strategies that keep you moving farther with confidence.

In this guide, we’ll share practical tips to help you extend your trip, optimize performance, and enjoy every mile without worrying about running out of charge.

Get up to 160 km of range autonomy on the Pulse and 145 km on the Origin in the city, depending on riding style and conditions. With the WMTC* cycle, you will get around 130 km of range for the Pulse and 115 km on the Origin, mostly due to its off-road capabilities.

Can-Am electric motorcycles make every ride easy with built-in route planning, battery management, locating the nearest charging tation, and a industry-leading liquid-cooled charger that powers you up from 20–80% in only 50 minutes.

Plan your route strategically

Planning your electric motorcycle adventures strategically involves several common-sense steps.

• Find Charging Easily : You can easily find the nearest charging station directly on your display with Apple CarPlay. This way, there is no need to pull over and check your phone.

• Choose Flat Routes : Elevation impacts battery life just like fuel consumption in gas engines. Flatter roads are best for EV efficiency and will help you get the maximum range on every ride.

• Prioritize Secondary Roads : Sustained high speeds on highways drain your battery faster. Electric motorcycles perfom better in city conditions thanks to active & passive regen, which recovers energy during repetitive stops and decelerations.

• Consider Weather : Cold weather can affect your ride, especially below 10°C. Fortunately, BRP’s industry-leading technology with a cooling system and a special coolant ensure optimal heat transfer in low temperatures. This liquid-cooled system improves cooling in hot conditions and helps the motorcycle’s electric system reach ideal operating temperature when it’s cold.

💡How does it work: The special coolant transfers heat from one component to another when the temperature is not optimal and will help the colder component until it reaches the optimal temperature.

What makes this system exceptional is that the onboard charger, inverter, battery, and motor are all liquid-cooled. The antifreeze/coolant is specially formulated for BRP vehicles and offers long-lasting protection with a 5-year lifespan.

Optimize your riding style

Maintain Balanced Speeds for Maximum Range

As mentioned above, try to avoid long sustained high speeds such as the highway since it will impact your range. Choosing flatter scenic routes makes for great experiences and helps conserve energy.

Your estimated range adjusts based on your current ride, so driving aggressively can result in a decreased estimated range for subsequent trips. It’s important to note that fast acceleration on your electric motorcycle doesn't just use a bit more energy, it uses a lot more! So, driving smoothly and at a consistent speed is the way to go if you want to get the most out of your battery range.

Use Regenerative Braking to Boost Efficiency

To get the best mileage, it's best to avoid sudden acceleration. When you ease off the accelerator while moving, your Pulse or Origin motorcycle will put some energy back into the battery by using the movement of the vehicle. This is called Passive Regen and you can adjust it depending on your preference.

Select between Off-MIN and MAX. With MAX putting more power back into the battery and more deceleration when you ease off the twist grip. Over time, these little boosts add up to make your ride more efficient. You can also use the Active Regen by twisting the grip in the opposite direction to put even more power back into the battery and create even more deceleration than the passive regeneration.

Choose The Right Driving Modes

Driving modes on your Pulse or Origin aren’t just a gimmick—they directly affect performance, range, and riding experience. Each mode adjusts power delivery, throttle response, and regenerative braking to suit different conditions.

Manage Weight for Better Mileage

Consider the impact of additional weight on how much range you will have on your ride, especially when heading out with a passenger. Carrying an extra person increases the load, reducing autonomy.

Keeping track of how much storage you're carrying on your motorcycle helps you figure out how far you can go before needing to recharge. This way, you can better plan your trips.

We offer a range of accessories to make storage easy, from small compartments for your phone to bigger top cases for longer adventures! Exclusive to BRP, LinQ accessories are installed in seconds and include a variety of must-have items like saddlebags, a passenger seat, and more.

Manage your motorcycle’s systems

To make sure your electric motorcycle runs smoothly and efficiently, here are two simple tips :

• Make sure your tires are filled with the right amount of air to make riding smoother with less effort.

• Regularly maintain your motorcycle and follow your operator's guide for more information. Your Can-Am dealer is also always ready to help with maintenance.

The Road Ahead Is Yours

Maximizing range is the best way for electric motorcycle riders to extend their adventures and make the most of every journey. By implementing simple tips like planning your route, minimizing weight, and conserving power, you can enjoy longer rides.
