Re: Fuel Vapor Canister Vent Hose Inspection / Replacement
Dear Can-Am On-Road® Owner,
This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc. (“BRP“) have decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain Can-Am Roadster models and are conducting a safety recall. Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.
Which models are involved?
Can-Am Roadster 2008 to 2010 (Spyder GS and RS Series).
What is the potential problem?
In some circumstances, fuel vapors may exit the fuel vapor canister vent hose in the enclosed engine compartment. Fuel vapors in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
To confirm that your VIN (Vehicle identification Number) is affected, contact your authorized Can-Am On-Road dealer or BRP at 1-888-272-9222 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Eastern time 7 days a week.
What will BRP do?
For dealers: BRP is publishing a Safety Campaign Bulletin giving the procedure to inspect the fuel vapor canister vent hose and if required to replace and re-route it.
For customers: BRP is sending to all known registered owners a Safety Recall letter. This letter urges that the owners immediately contact their authorized BRP dealer in order to have the vehicle repaired. The solution is the inspection of the fuel vapor canister vent hose to determine if the proper hose is installed and if required the replacement and re-routing of the fuel vapor canister vent hose.
Also, BRP is posting this notice and attached Safety Campaign Bulletin on its dealer website BOSSWeb (www.bossweb.brp.com). Information for customers is posted on BRP's public web site (www.can-am.brp.com).
What should you do?
- Do not sell or deliver any involved vehicle that you have in stock as federal law requires you to complete the recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery.
- Follow all instructions provided in the attached Safety Campaign Bulletin.
Please note that the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act provides that each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. Failure to repair within (60) days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. The owner may be entitled to an identical or reasonable equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation.
