Can-Am Spyder models are built in BRP's main production facilities in Valcourt, Québec, Canada and the Can-Am Ryker models are build in BRP's production facility in Juárez, Mexico.
The Can-Am Spyder was the first Can-Am On-Road model, and it was introduced in February 2007. The Can-Am Ryker was introduced in September 2018.
Can-Am On-Road models are classified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as three-wheeled motorcycles. BRP feels that Can-Am On-Road 3-wheeled models give owners the performance of a motorcycle and much of the peace of mind of a convertible sports car.
While initially concepting Can-Am Spyder, BRP briefly looked at going the traditional route, keeping in line with other powersport companies. However, BRP wanted to stay strong to its core value, opting for designing an innovative, paradigm-shifting vehicle that makes a true statement. This stays true more than 10 years later, with the innovative new Can-Am Ryker.
Spyder and Ryker are spelled with a Y because of Can-Am’s Y-frame design. It has two wheels in the front and one wheel in the back.
Can-Am On-Road models can’t be compared to anything on the road because of their unique Y-frame design and automotive technologies. These 3-wheel vehicles provide an open-road riding experience like nobody has seen or experienced before.
Most jurisdictions in Europe with the exception of Greece require a valid car licence to operate Can-Am On-Road models. In other countries and especially in North America, some jurisdictions require a valid motorcycle or three-wheel licence. We invite you to contact your local authorities to obtain the licence and vehicle registration information that applies to you or to look it up in the Licensing Requirements section of this website.
Helmet requirements are the same as standard motorcycles and vary by location. While helmet laws aren’t universal, BRP recommends everybody wear a helmet while riding a Can-Am On-Road model.
Yes. Can-Am On-Road models meet or exceed all environmental regulations, including the stricter CARB standards.
Yes. Can-Am On-Road models are classified as three-wheeled motorcycles and follow state motorcycle laws.
Can-Am On-Road models are stable. They have a unique Y-architecture with three wheels (2+1) that provides stability at rest and in motion. Can-Am On-Road models also come standard with a Vehicle Stability System (VSS™) that includes ABS, Traction Control, and Stability Control.
Can-Am Spyder models come standard with a two-year warranty with unlimited mileage and the Can-Am Ryker models come with a standard one-year warranty with unlimited milage.
Can-Am On-Road models turn much like a Can-Am ATV, Sea-Doo personal watercraft or Ski-Doo snowmobile. Riders steer the vehicle through the turn. There is no counter steering or leaning like you would with a motorcycle. Can-Am On-Road models also feature DPS (Dynamic Power Steering) to provide steering assistance according to speed and user input.
The Can-Am Spyder has two different transmission options. There is the Sequential Manual, which has a traditional 6-speed manual transmission with reverse (SM6). The other option is the Sequential Electronic, which is a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission with reverse (SE6). Up until 2016 some models featured a 5-speed transmission.
The Can-Am Ryker features a CVT transmission with no use of clutch or shifting required.
Can-Am On-Road models are sold at BRP dealerships across the globe.
