Re: Possible Loss of Steering - Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) Shaft May Break
Dear Can-Am® Owner,
BRP is conducting a safety recall on certain ATV models.
Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.
What is the potential problem?
The DPS shaft may break causing a loss of steering control. In some circumstances, this situation may cause injuries or death.
Which models are involved?
Model year 2017 Can-Am Outlander™ / Outlander™ MAX™ equipped with a DPS and 450 or 570 engines.
What will BRP do?
BRP intends to repair involved vehicles free of charge for the customer (parts and labor).
The permanent solution to provide the remedy to this condition should start being available in May. BRP will contact you with another letter when the permanent solution becomes available.
What should you do?
BRP recommends to avoid driving your vehicle until the permanent solution is performed.
In the meantime, if you must use your vehicle, please contact your BRP Can-Am ATV dealer and make an appointment. Your dealer will perform an interim repair procedure.
The interim repair procedure is a temporary action to allow limited use of your vehicle until the availability of the permanent solution.
Following the interim repair procedure, if you still choose to use your vehicle, be aware that you must respect the following:
· Do not use at speeds above 30 km/h (20 MPH)
· Maintain very low speeds on rough terrain
The presence of aftermarket modifications will not prevent you from receiving this service at no cost. The presence of these modifications, while the service is being completed, will not void any existing warranty or service contract.
