This is a period of 200 miles or 300 km for Can-Am Ryker models and a period of 600 miles or 1,000 km for Can-Am Spyder models (F3 and RT). During this period, the engine should not be operated at high revs, nor should it accelerate abruptly. The vehicle should be operated gently to ensure maximum longevity and reliability. You should also avoid using cruise control during this period, as it maintains a constant engine speed, something we try to avoid. In fact, it's preferable to vary the engine speed during the break-in period, as this helps to seat the piston rings better on the cylinder walls. For the first 200 mi (300 km), avoid sudden braking.
This is common practice in the recreational vehicle and motorcycle industries, where small engines produce high levels of power, yet are designed and built to exacting standards. Your Ryker should be serviced for the first time after 6,000 miles or 10,000 km.
For a Spyder ( F3 and RT), we recommend that, after the first 3,000 miles or 5,000 km, your vehicle be inspected by an authorized Can-Am On-Road dealer, repair shop, or person of your own choosing.
