On-season checklist for your Can-Am 3-wheel vehicle

For starters, to get anywhere with your Can-Am, it needs a healthy battery. As in any motorized vehicle, the battery is what gives the engine the power of ignition and keeps your electric systems functional on the road. As such, you don’t want your Can-Am’s battery to die out. 

Unfortunately, as with any battery, long periods of inactivity can cause harm to a battery’s ability to hold a charge. This is why it is important to at least check the battery health after off-season storage. That way you know you’ll get your Can-Am running and that it won’t leave you on the side of the road after a mile or two.

The best solution for ensuring a healthy battery is to get a smart charger. Having one and connecting it to your Can-Am’s battery during the off-season manages the battery’s charge while it isn’t in use in a similar way it would behave if the vehicle was being ridden regularly. The smart charger ensures your Can-Am battery’s longevity and, consequently, smooth rides for the riding season. You’ll more than likely find smart chargers in well-equipped hardware stores near you.

Good tires equal safe rides. Thus, regardless of how new your tires are, it’s a good idea to check the tires on your Can-Am both for wear and their pressure before getting back on the road after an off-season. This will give you peace of mind for your upcoming rides in terms of ensuring safety for yourself and others alike. Also, you’ll know whether or not there’ll be a change of tires coming up over the riding season.

The tires themselves have a tread wear indicator running along the surface. This helps you in recognising how much of the tire tread has worn out, and makes it possible for you to determine how much life there’s left in the tire. You can also compare the indicators between the three tires, which can reveal a need for realigning your Ryker or Spyder if there’s uneven wear in the tires.

And since you’re already looking at your tires, you can also check the tire pressure. The recommended tire pressure can be found labeled on your vehicle. For your vehicle’s label location, please refer to the operator’s guide of your vehicle. With the right pressure, your tires are going to last longer and wear out evenly.

Who doesn’t want to get treated to a nice wash and scrub every now and then? Your Can-Am sure does. Nevermind the length of your off-season, you have had to store it some place indoors, and probably where it gets to sit still for long periods at a time. 

This means your Ryker or Spyder will gather some dust over the off-season. And, if you’ve neglected to clean your vehicle when storing it, it’s going to come with some grime as well that you’re better off getting off of your ride. Also, when preparing for the riding season, it’s best to save the clean-up for last – in case you spill some oil or otherwise make a mess. There are easy ways for cleaning your Can-Am for the new riding season. Good old water and soap can do the trick, and works well as a first wash.
