How to manage dust while off-road riding (ATV / SxS)?

When you’re venturing off-road, avoiding dust is a must. Nobody likes a face full of dust that gets all over your eyes, nose and mouth.

If you want your next ride to be totally dust-free, the Can-Am product lineup includes a few easy solutions that are made specifically to suit your vehicle. Here’s how to protect yourself on all sides to enjoy your riding experience to its fullest.

Front and top dust protection

The first step is to prevent dust from entering your cab by adding a roof and windshield to your Can-Am vehicle. That way, even if you’re off-road riding with one or more people who are kicking up dust all around you, you won’t get any dirt in your face!

Can-Am has several different windshield and roof configurations available, depending on your preferred style. Certain models, like the ProVent windshield and roof scoop, even feature ventilation technology so you can protect yourself from debris without compromising air circulation.

Tip: Anyone off-road riding with a windshield should also add a rear panel to their vehicle. Since windshields create a low-pressure zone, dust can be sucked into the cab from the rear of the vehicle, which defeats the entire purpose! A rear panel breaks up the suction and keeps your ride dust-free.

Wheel dust protection

Whether you’re riding solo or in a group, your wheels will also be stirring up their fair share of dust. Fender flares, also known as extensions, create a barrier on top of and behind your wheels, reducing the amount of dust being directed towards your vehicle from below.

As a bonus, extensions are more than just dust-busters; they can also protect you while riding through other harsh conditions, including snow, sand, rain and mud.

Side Dust Protection

Doors are yet another way to keep dust at bay. Half doors, which typically extend from the bottom to about shoulder height, provide great protection while still allowing for lots of air flow.

That said, if you want the most complete dust protection, we recommend a full door. If you’re worried that a full door might diminish the off-roading experience, we’ve got good news: these parts often come with windows, so you can easily roll them down to enjoy the sun and fresh air.

What’s more, given how much protection they offer, full doors allow you to hit the road in any weather — rain, snow or otherwise.
